College events to celebrate Women’s History Month

Penn State Harrisburg’s observance of Women’s History Month in March includes lectures, presentations, and even a "Boobies Ball."

Coordinated by the college’s Commission for Women, the series of events begins Wednesday, March 19 at noon in the Gallery Lounge with a presentation by Dr. Auden Thomas, director of the Penn State Harrisburg Center for Survey Research. Dr. Thomas will discuss the progress being made by the University Park Commission for Women on a number of issues.

On Thursday, March 20 at noon in the Morrison Gallery of the library, Saltsburg Borough Police Chief Robert M. Doperak will discuss "Identity Crimes, High–Tech Harassment, and Chat Room Protection" and a panel featuring Penn State Harrisburg alumni and friends will focus on "Women in Nontraditional Roles" at noon Thursday, March 27 in the Gallery Lounge.

Sponsored by the Lion Ambassadors, the annual "Boobies Ball" on Friday, March 28 is designed to raise awareness of breast self–awareness while raising funds for cancer research. Admission to the 8 p.m. to midnight ball is $5 with all proceeds going to the local Feel Your Boobies Foundation. For information, phone 717-948-6715.

The series concludes Monday, March 31 at 2 p.m. with a "Women»s History Quiz Bowl" in the Gallery Lounge. Participants will pit their knowledge against teams of faculty and students in the quiz bowl.
