Area ninth graders to participate in math and science Career Launch

February 25, 2008

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – An estimated 100 ninth graders from five area schools will receive an in-depth look at careers related to math and science when Penn State Harrisburg hosts its annual Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math Career Launch (STEM) on Wednesday, March 12.

The program in the Olmsted Building on campus is designed to provide the students with an understanding of the course work and requirements and to encourage higher education study in mathematics and science-related areas.

Students from Harrisburg High School, Steelton-Highspire High School, Central Dauphin East High School, Susquehanna Township, and Middletown Area High School have been invited to interact with professionals who work in careers where science, technology, engineering, and/or mathematics are routinely used.

Following the 9 a.m. opening session, small groups of students will meet with professionals who will conduct information sessions on 12 careers.

The event is sponsored and coordinated by the Penn State Harrisburg Office of Multicultural Recruitment and Community Affairs.  For information, phone 717-948-6297.
