College offers SAT Prep, Countdown to College courses

September 25, 2008

Penn State Harrisburg is offering the New SAT Exam Prep Course and a “Countdown to College” course to students in grades 9 through 12 on seven consecutive Saturdays, Oct. 11 through Nov. 22.

The separate courses will each be offered in the Educational Activities Building on campus. Deadline for registration is October 8.

The SAT Prep Course is designed to teach students how to effectively apply new strategies to prepare for the comprehensive SAT exam. The courses will examine and discuss strategic approaches and methodical processes for the critical reading, writing, and math sections through lecture, interactive class discussions, and engaging activities.

The SAT course will meet from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

The Countdown to College sessions, from 1 to 4 p.m., will encompass five key areas: selecting the right college; creating an effective entrance essay; preparing for entrance exams; writing and impressive resume; and developing effective college test-taking skills.

The instructor, Robin Thal, has four years’ experience teaching SAT Prep, College Prep, and reading, writing, and math curricula and recently taught an SAT Exam prep course for Kids College at Penn State Harrisburg. She holds a master’s degree in teaching and curriculum with reading specialist and writing specialization certification from Penn State Harrisburg.

Fees are $300 for the SAT exam prep and $190 for the Countdown to College. If a student enrolls in both courses, the total cost is $450. For information, contact Karen Karnes in Penn State Harrisburg Continuing Education at 717-948-6536 or e-mail ksk1@psu.edu .
