Faculty seminar to focus on artificial intelligence

The final 2008 installment in the Penn State Harrisburg Faculty Seminar Series will feature a presentation by Professor of Information Systems Parag Pendharkar Wednesday, Dec. 3 at noon in the Gallery Lounge.

Dr. Pendharkar’s presentation will focus on artificial intelligence, decision support, and software engineering. A light lunch will be provided

A faculty member in the School of Business Administration, Dr. Pendharkar earned his doctorate in MIS from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1997. Prior to joining Penn State Harrisburg, he worked as an associate at a management consulting company in Mountain View, Calif., where he was involved in a number of consulting projects with Sea-Land Services, Inc. Continental Airlines, the U.S. Government, and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Dr. Pendharkar's research areas include management information systems, direct marketing and consumer credit screening, distributed artificial intelligence, genetic algorithms, inductive learning, neural networks, fuzzy logic, case-based reasoning, information systems and decision support in manufacturing, information systems implementation, and quality issues in health care.

He has been published in a number of journals including Annals of Operations Research, Communications of the ACM, Decision Science, Computers and Operations Research, Expert Systems with Applications, Interfaces and various proceedings of international, national and regional conferences.
