TRDEV418. Instructional Methods In Training And Development (3) Emphasis on teaching techniques and learning principles used by trainers and supervisors in business, health care, and government.

TRDEV421. Presentation Skills For New Trainers(3) Introduces the effective use of platform skills for training, including the use of voice, audio-visual aids, group facilitation, and personal presence. Prerequisite: admission into the M.Ed. program in Training and Development.

TRDEV431. Basic Technology Skills In Training (3) Introduces learners to basic training technology skills, such as electronic communications and the use of word processing, spreadsheets, and databases as training tools. Provides skills to create and maintain electronic presentations and Web Based Training (WBT) programs. Prerequisite: admission to the Training and Development program or program permission.

TRDEV432. Television Production For Training And Education (3) Utilizes equipment and techniques for television studio and field production in education and training. Prerequisite: admission to graduate degree candidacy

TRDEV460. Foundations In Training And Development (3) Roles in training and development, relationships between training and development and other organizational structures, and the principles of training design.

TRDEV465. Performance Analysis (3) A fundamental goal of training and development is to improve employee performance. An important first step in achieving this goal is the analysis of employee performance at the organization, process, and job-performer levels. This course involves the in-depth study of concepts, principles, and strategies for analyzing performance at these three levels to identify performance problems, diagnose causes of performance problems, and specify appropriate training and development solutions.

TRDEV470. HRD Tools and Techniques (3) The course provides an overview of the human resources function in organizations and examines the role of human resource development (HRD) and human resource management in relation to performing key tasks in the human resources function. Students investigate contemporary perspectives of HRD as a transformational function responsible for adding value and delivering results within organizations. The investigation includes the study of four contemporary HRD roles (strategic partner, administrative expert, employee champion, and change agent) and tools and techniques used by professionals in each of these HRD roles to facilitate employee learning and performance.

TRDEV475. Career and Succession Management (3) This course examines a systemic approach to career and succession planning through the study of career management concepts including core competency development, individual development plans, and performance management as well as new perspectives on career structures, such as the protean/boundaryless career, free-agent/contingent worker, and job sculpting.

TRDEV505. Project Management in Training and Development (3) This course is designed to enhance students' skills in managing complex TRDEV projects. These skills include conceptualizing the scope of a TRDEV project, creating and monitoring a realistic project timeline, identifying and allocating necessary resources and personnel, creating and monitoring a realistic project budget, and creating and managing a project team.

TRDEV507. Program Evaluation (3) Evaluation of educational and other human services programs; preparation and presentation of the evaluation proposal. Prerequisite: TRDEV418 and 460.

TRDEV518. Systematic Instructional Design In Training (3) Study of theory and practice of systematic instructional design. Application of instructional design principles to training problems in local organizations. Prerequisite: admission to graduate degree candidacy. Prerequisite: TRDEV418 and 460.

TRDEV520. Learning Styles And Learning Theory In Training (3) Adult learning theory and its application to training and development. Prerequisite: TRDEV418 and 460

TRDEV531. Technology In Training (3) Introduction to the applications of various new instructional technologies to training problems. Prerequisite: TRDEV431 (or permission of the instructor), 418, and 460.

TRDEV532. Web-Based Training (3) Introduction to course authoring software for local development of computer-based instruction (CBT) in training and education. Experience with computers is recommended. Prerequisite: TRDEV418, 460,and 531.

TRDEV533. Distance Learning For Trainers (3) This course will explore a variety of instructional technologies, which have direct applications in training adult learners at a distance. Prerequisite: Prerequisite: TRDEV418 and 460.

TRDEV565. Implementing Training and Development Programs (3) This course involves the critical analysis of theories, strategies, and techniques for planning and implementing TRDEV programs. Specifically, students will learn how to develop a contract for designing a training and development intervention, describe important characteristics of organizations to consider when planning an intervention, diagnose employee performance needs in organizations, specify appropriate training and development interventions for addressing different types of performance needs, and develop implementation and evaluation plans.

TRDEV583. Issues In Training (3) An issue seminar addressing topics such as an unprepared work force, diversity, recession, and issues generated by the class. Prerequisite: TRDEV418 and 460.

EDUC586. Educational Research And Design (3) Identification of research designs appropriate to educational field and laboratory investigations and the development of a master's project proposal. Prerequisite: 15 credits of graduate studies.

TRDEV587. Master's Paper (1-6) The development of an original master's project (paper, production, or practicum) supervised and judged by an appropriate faculty committee. You must have successfully completed EDUC586 before enrolling in this course.
NOTE: Work with your adviser to determine the type of paper you will produce: research, production, or theory.

TRDEV588. Research Designs Applied To Training (3) Planning experimental, observation, survey and qualitative research designs for training setting needs such as needs assessments and evaluations. Prerequisite: TRDEV 418, 460, EDUC 586. You must have successfully completed EDUC586 before enrolling in this course.

TRDEV595. Internship (1-18) Supervised off-campus, nongroup instruction including field experiences, practica, or internships. Written and oral critique of activity required. Prerequisite: prior approval of proposed assignment by instructor and completion of four (4) TRDEV courses.

TRDEV596.Independent Studies (1-9) Creative projects, including nonthesis research, that are supervised on an individual basis and which fall outside the scope of formal courses. (To learn more, link to Independent Studies.)

TRDEV597. Special Topics (1-9) Formal courses given on a topical or special interest subject which may be offered infrequently; several different topics may be taught in one year or semester. Prerequisite:Permission of program.
