Program
The Master of Education in Training and Development program at Penn State Harrisburg prepares students for professional careers in training and development. The overarching goal of the program is to help students develop the ability to assess and improve employee learning and performance. Accordingly, specific goals of the program include developing the ability to: analyze employee performance; design a broad range of performance improvement interventions, with particular emphasis on the design, development, and delivery of training programs; evaluate training and development programs; facilitate work group discussions and group processes; translate training and development theory into practice; and critically evaluate research in training and development.
Students may enter the Training and Development Program from a variety of backgrounds and enroll in courses to help them develop competencies in training and development. The program has clearly-stated guidelines for students and advisers, and courses are scheduled to meet part-time and full-time student needs.
Graduates of the Training and Development Program frequently assume positions such as trainers, instructional designers, program evaluators, performance analysts, career development specialists, and organization developers in diverse organizational settings, including business and industry, government, and health care. The Training and Development program provides the opportunity for deepening professional knowledge and skills in important areas of professional practice in training and development. Examples of such areas of practice include:
- Performance analysis - Diagnose performance problems at job, process, and organizational levels and specify solutions to address those problems.
- Training design and development - Design instructional strategies and materials for training programs
- Career development - Design and implement career plans and succession management systems.
- Organization development - Design programs for enhancing the capabilities of the workforce as well as systems in organizations
- Program Evaluation - Assess the effectiveness of training and development programs.
