Developing a Waiver for Internship Request:
The requirement for an internship, which is necessary to complete the Master's Degree in Training and Development, may be waived if the degree candidate has the equivalent or more than six months of training experience. A waiver may be obtained if, after an evaluation of the candidate's training experience, the Committee for Training and Development determines that the candidate's experience meets the criteria. The following guidelines have been developed to aid the candidate in the development of a waiver that will be uniform and fair to all applicants.

  1. Prepare, in the form of a resume, a listing of your work experience. Begin with your most recent experience and progress to your oldest experience. In the description include your duties and highlight those duties that would fit the description of a training of development function. (Think of the ADDIE training model, or think of training functions described in your classes. For example if you thought of Assess, Design, Develop, Instruct, and Evaluate (ADDIE), under this plan you might consider: design, adapt, plan, or modify materials, presentations etc.)
  2. Following each training behavior description, identify the amount oftime or percentage of time devoted to such behaviors weekly (e.g., the position requires the employment counselor to assess the abilities of job applicants. In addition, the counselor is responsible for the assessment (5%), analysis (10%), and planning (10%) of organizational needs for new employees.
  3. List the name of supervisors and their telephone numbers after each entry.
  4. Provide a letter from the supervisor who is either most recent or who has supervised you for the longest period of your training experience. This letter should reflect the amount of time you have been involved in training activities with your company or organization and the kinds of training responsbilities to which you are assigned.
  5. Send the material to your advisor, so your advisor may present your case to the Committee.
  6. If you are uncertain about the process or if you have any questions please contact your advisor.
