What is DISCOVER?
DISCOVER is a comprehensive computer program that is designed to help you gather information that will assist you in making informed decisions about your educational and career plans. The system is internet-based and you can work from any computer that has internet service. While DISCOVER provides a systematic and structured way of organizing information about careers based on information you provide about yourself, it will not make a decision for you.
DISCOVER Can Help You:
· Learn about your interests, values and skills, which can help you make informed career choices
· Obtain valuable career information about hundreds of occupations
· Learn about how to make informed decisions as they relate to educational, career, and life goals
· Gather detailed information about four-year colleges, graduate schools, and job search strategies
DISCOVER and Career Services
For some of you, DISCOVER may raise as many questions as it answers. A career counselor can help you understand what you have learned as well as help you decide on your next steps. We recommend that you use DISCOVER as one of many tools in the career development process and take advantage of the other services offered by Penn State Harrisburg Career Services.
Career Services offers a wide range of programs, workshops, and resources to help you with your career planning during your time at Penn State Harrisburg. Stop by the Penn State Harrisburg Career Services office located in Olmsted W117 to learn more about our offerings or visit us on the web at http://www.hbg.psu.edu/careers. In addition, you may set up an individual career counseling appointment with a career counselor to further assist you with your career plans.
Using DISCOVER:
DISCOVER’s Home Page (see reverse side) will direct you to log onto the system using a token. To receive your token/ID you must first visit the PSH Career Center located in Olmsted W117. The token will provide you with a User ID and you will need to create your own password. Once logged onto the system, the menu is presented in the form of multi-colored tabs. Each tab will assist you in different phases of your career planning process.
