Karl Martz has been the Assistant Director of Career Development and Student Services at Penn Sta
te Harrisburg since November 1988. In addition to overseeing the operations of the Career Services Office, he is responsible for assisting students and alumni with career planning and career development. He meets with students and alumni to discuss career related issues, job search strategies, and interviewing, facilitates workshops and works with employers to develop career opportunities and linkages.
He is an active member in several employment consortiums that plan and sponsor job, intern, and career fairs. He is also a long time member of the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers (formerly MAPA and ECEN), a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers, and a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Employers Penn ACE).Corporate Career Development is a strong interest of his, and he serves as a consultant to business and industry. Prior to coming to Penn State Harrisburg, Karl spent 12 years in Student Affairs at a private proprietary school where he served as the Coordinator of Counseling and Career Services, and later as the Director of Student Affairs.
He has a M.Ed. in Training and Development from Penn State Harrisburg and a B.A. from Texas Lutheran University.
Charlotte Spector has been with the Career Services operation since March 1995. In her role as Career Services Specialist and Job Developer she has been setting up the on-campus recruitment schedule and working with employers to post their employment and internship opportunities with our office. She will meet with students to discuss career planning issues including resumes, use of DISCOVER, job hunting tips, etc. In addition, Charlotte is the advisor to Alpha Sigma Lambda, the adult honor society.
Previously, Charlotte was the Adult Counselor for Continuing Education here at Penn State Harrisburg and advised returning adult students regarding their academic and career goals. She also has experience in Financial Aid having worked as Assistant Director of the Financial Aid Office at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Her first professional position after earning an M.A. in Student Personnel Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University, was a Residence Hall Director at Drexel University.
Charlotte lives in Hershey with her family.
Colleen Monismith is the Career Services Administrative Support Assistant. She has been employed with Penn State Harrisburg since 1993. Before joining the Student Life staff in Career Services, she worked in the Pennsylvania State Data Center as an Information Specialist. Currently in her role as Career Services staff assistant, she is responsible for coordination of the On-Campus Recruiting schedule for students and employers and assisting students with their career needs.
Colleen attended Shippensburg University for 2 years and is currently working on her Bachelors degree at Penn State Harrisburg.
