ON-CAMPUS RECRUITING FACILITIES
Employers
are offered the opportunity to interview seniors and graduate students
in comfortable, private interview rooms. Campus recruiting is scheduled
during both the fall and spring semesters. Our size allows us to be
flexible, but we find that campus interviews work best if we have eight
weeks to publicize your visit and follow sign-up procedures. Students
in the majors you specify will submit interview requests; employers may
choose to prescreen the forms and select students to interview. We will
arrange full days, half-days, multiple schedules, group meetings,
company information presentations, or other schedules at your request.
ADVERTISING CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
With
just a phone call or a note from an employer, we advertise openings on
the Penn State Harrisburg/College Central Network Job/Intern Posting
System. Once approved by the Career Center, you can post jobs and
internship opportunities exclusively to our students and alumni and
access résumés (conduct a search) at no charge.
Candidates may be instructed to contact you directly; if you prefer, we
will collect and forward resumes. Job postings normally include a brief
description of the opening(s), the requirements, and the contact
information.
PART-TIME WORK, TEMPORARY PROJECTS, CO-OP
OPPORTUNITIES, INTERNSHIPS, AND SUMMER EMPLOYMENT
Many
students are interested in gaining work experience and earning money
for college expenses, and we will publicize these opportunities.
Students may contact you directly, or we will collect and forward
resumes. If requested, we will stock copies of your application and
provide interview facilities.
MEETINGS WITH FACULTY
The
Career Services Office will arrange meetings with faculty members for
employers interested in discussing their organization's career
opportunities and our degree programs.
A CAREER LIBRARY
Employers are
invited to provide company literature for display or videos for
inclusion in our Career Library. Information about your products,
services, and career opportunities is of interest to students and
alumni. In addition, upon request we will add a link to
your company's homepage on our "Researching Employers" pages. Email your request to the Career
Services Office and include the address for the link.

Our Program
The
faculty and administration are continually working to enhance the
quality of the programs offered and to add new ones to meet the needs
of business, industry, government, and technology.
From
our founding in 1966, Penn State Harrisburg has been committed to the
development of innovative upper-division and graduate programs that
uphold the standards of excellence of The Pennsylvania State
University. The faculty and administration are continually working to
enhance the quality of the programs offered and to add new ones to meet
the needs of business, industry, government, and technology. The
following programs are offered at Penn State Harrisburg.
BACCALAUREATE
PROGRAMS
Engineering/Engineering Technology (Electrical Engineering Technology,
Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology,
Structural Design and Construction Engineering). Engineering students
receive a well-rounded education in theory and application, with
concentration on practical application of engineering principles. The
programs emphasize a hands-on approach to problem solving, laboratory
experience, and application of engineering knowledge, techniques and
principles to technical problems. Extensive laboratory facilities
accommodate lab instruction, independent projects, and research by
students and faculty.
Business Administration (Finance, Information Systems, Management,
Marketing, Professional Accountancy). The undergraduate business
program allows students to select from a wide range of business and
non-business courses while specializing in one of the above majors.
Education (Elementary,
Secondary English, Mathematical Sciences and Social Studies)
Behavioral Sciences (Applied Behavioral Science, Psychology and
Sociology). The Behavioral Science program requires some breadth of
study in the behavioral sciences, in-depth work in a particular
discipline, and appropriate electives.
Humanities (American Studies, General Humanities, Humanities/Business,
Literature, Communications). Students in the Humanities program explore
the history, literature, art, music, and philosophy of the Western
world. The liberal arts education helps develop skills in
communication, quantitative analysis, and logical reasoning that
employers find essential for success in many occupations.
Public Affairs (Public Policy and Criminal Justice). The Public Affairs
program prepares individuals for making, implementing, and dealing with
public policy. Students are exposed to a blend of social and political
theory, skills and methods, decision making, economic analysis, and
urban studies.
Mathematical Sciences (Computer Science and Mathematical Sciences).
The Mathematical Sciences program develops logical and abstract
thinking, as well as the problem-solving abilities needed to apply
mathematical concepts and skills in positions of responsibility.
Students attain competence in computer science, statistics, and
mathematical modeling as applied tools for real-world problems.
GRADUATE PROGRAMS
Master's
degree programs include: Business Administration, Public
Administration, Education (Teaching and Curriculum, Training and
Development, and Health Education), American Studies, Community
Psychology, Applied Psychology, Information Systems, Environmental
Pollution Control, Engineering Science, Electrical Engineering and

Our Students
The
maturity and experience of Penn State Harrisburg graduates helps them
adapt easily and productively to a new challenge.
The
Penn State Harrisburg undergraduate student body is composed of
students who have finished two years of college, usually at one of Penn
State's two-year Commonwealth Campuses or at a community or junior
college. Some have transferred to Penn State Harrisburg from four-year
colleges or universities. The graduate students population includes a
large number of working professionals from the surrounding areas.
Our
2,100 undergraduates and 1,100 graduate students offer employers a
broad spectrum of backgrounds: some traditional students who entered
college after high school; some have completed associate degrees and
worked several years before deciding to earn a bachelor's degree; some
are in the midst of career changes; some returning to an education
interrupted earlier by career or family demands. The majority are from
Pennsylvania, but some students are from other states and several
foreign countries. Many are first-generation college students from
families with a strongly ingrained work ethic.
In
general, our students are older than those at most colleges, and often
have records of professional or military accomplishments. The maturity
and experience of Penn State Harrisburg graduates helps them adapt
easily and productively to new challenges.
Many
of our alumni have established successful careers and achieved notable
positions in business, engineering, education, media, management, and
public service. Employers have demonstrated confidence in Penn State
Harrisburg graduates by continuing to contact us as openings occur.
