Associate Degree in Letters, Arts, and Sciences (60 credits)

Description:

The Penn State Associate Degree in Letters, Arts, and Sciences provides specialized training in the basic disciplines of the humanities and social sciences, while broadening understanding, interests, and skills. It includes courses in the arts, natural sciences, social and behavioral sciences, humanities, and mathematics. In addition, elective courses may be tailored to personal, academic, or career interests in such subjects as management, history, or human development.

General Education Requirements:

Quantification:
  • Select 3 credits (GQ)
Natural Sciences:
  • Select 3 credits (GN or DN)
Arts:
  • Select 3 credits (GA or DA)
Humanities:
  • Select 3 credits (GH or DH)
Social/Behavioral Sciences:
  • Select 3 credits (GS or DS)

Required Courses:

  • ENGL 015 Rhetoric and Composition (GWS) (3)
  • ENGL 202 A, B, C, or D (GWS) (3)
  • SPCOM 100 Effective Speech (GWS) (3)

Supporting Courses:

  • Select 3 credits in any course designated as arts (GA or DA)
  • Select 3 credits in any course designated as humanities (GH or DH)
  • Select 3 credits in any course designated as social and behavioral sciences (GS or DS)
  • Select 3 credits in any course designated as a natural science (GN or DN)
  • Select 9 credits from one of the following areas: arts, humanities, social/behavioral sciences, science/mathematics, or foreign languages (courses must be in one foreign language)

Electives:

  • Select 15 credits from any combination of courses

Please note: 3 credits each in diversity focused (DF) and writing intensive (W) course work is also required.
