In an age when the news is spattered with stories of murder and terrorism, it is refreshing to know that there are people who still care. Angela Shuff, a 21-year-old Penn State student, finds pleasure in helping others.

She is looking forward to spending five weeks in Peru this summer to show love to those in need.  Since she is fascinated by Spanish culture and language, she is looking forward to being immersed in it.  Her purpose in going to Peru is to live and work with missionaries who are friends of her family.  She will help run a day care and Sunday school classes for children.

Her adventure will also include a seven-day hike through the Andes Mountains.  On the hike, the group will hand out Bibles, religious literature and hold evangelistic meetings with local people.

“I’ve been wanting to do this for years now, and God has provided me with this awesome opportunity” says Shuff.

Shuff is also excited about the chance to  visit cultural parts of the city of Lima and the famous Inca remains at Macchu Picchu.

Shuff, whose father is a Baptist pastor at New Life Baptist Church in New Cumberland,  says the greatest event of her life was when she trusted Christ as her Savior at the age of six.  “Without God it is scary to think where I would be headed,”  she says.

She says she enjoys freedom that comes from a deep relationship with God,” a relationship that is only possible because Christ died for the world.”

Shuff is most grateful in life for her family and friends who have been there for her through hard times.  She loves spending time with them, going to movies, plays, concerts, or just hanging out and relaxing.  When she is alone she likes to read and play the piano.

Shuff recently transferred to Penn State from Cedarville University, a Christian school in Ohio.  “I made real lasting friendships there, and it is so hard to be away from them,” she said.

A communications major, Shuff’s dream job is to incorporate her love of editing and design with her religion. She would love to work for a Christian magazine but is keeping her options open.
