Nicole Marcellus has broken into the realm of news reporters. The 22-year old Penn State Harrisburg student has an internship with Harrisburg’s Patriot News as a staff writer.

She said that it is a lot of fun working there and although she frequently hears "hey that’s the intern", she does not get treated like a rookie.

Marcellus likes to go out and interview people. She said she would much rather talk to a person face-to-face rather than calling them on the telephone. "You make a lot of friends," she said.

Marcellus also likes to hear responses from the readers. She said that people will call and tell her they liked the article she wrote. "People respond…it [the article] really gets to them," she said. Marcellus said she was surprised and never really thought people paid attention.

Apart from writing Marcellus is an avid star gazer. When she was young her mother, a scientist at the National Academy of Sciences, introduced her to the stars. She can recognize all 88 constellations and at one time considered pursuing a degree in science.

In addition to school and the newspaper, Marcellus is happy spending time with her fiancé Geoff. "He’s the greatest," she said.
