Dynamic, artistic and media-savvy are among words that can be used to describe Stacy De Angelo.  A communications major at Penn State Harrisburg, De Angelo is an ambitious young woman who has lived a very interesting and productive life, expressing her ideas through the arts and the media

De Angelo has thrived in the arts as a graphic and layout designer, a photographer, a poet and a down-to-earth expert on movies, music and television shows.  She has risen through the ranks of student newspaper journalism from a high school news editor and staff writer/photographer to assistant news editor and now the news editor of the Penn State Capital Times.

“I enjoy designing the layout for the paper and choosing where everything goes like a puzzle,” De Angelo said.  She would rather work as a layout designer in the future while practicing photography on the side.  “Anything that makes money in those fields is fine with me.”

De Angelo has also won recognition for some of her photographic works in the 2002 edition of Tarhelm, a collection of photography, short stories and poetry by Penn State students and faculty.  One of her prints pictured an abstract arrangement of a flowerpot with flowers jolting out of a toilet, and sold for $60.

“The cat had just knocked the flower pot into the toilet so I thought it would make an excellent picture, so I took it,” De Angelo said.  She also entered five photographs into the “Fine Arts Fiesta” and they accepted four out of the five.  “Two people were even fighting over one of my photographs when it came time to sell them.”

De Angelo also enjoys writing poetry.  “I like to put my thoughts into words,” De Angelo said.  De Angelo has gained recognition for her poetry on the Poetry.com website.

De Angelo is not too fond of her childhood.  “My childhood was alright but I wouldn’t want to do it again.  Being a teenager was fun though because we always got into trouble like every teen does.  I’ve done a lot, but I’m glad I am older now and I would never go back,” De Angelo said.

Some of her future aspirations include getting a job in design layout and traveling so that she can see the world around her.  She would also like to continue producing more photographs and poetry along the way.  “I love life and having one to live is the best thing that could ever happen to someone,” she said.
