Application to the Program

NOTE: Effective Fall Semester 2004 The Graduate School at Penn State will accept electronic applications only.

Application
Applications for admission to the Environmental Pollution Control (EPC) Program may be submitted at any time; however, the EPC Program at University Park has a fall semester-only admission. Those interested in our program at Penn State Harrisburg should apply to that campus http://www.hbg.psu.edu/epc.

All EPC applicants are required to submit test scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Aptitude Test (verbal, quantitative, analytical). Information concerning the GRE may be obtained by telephoning 1-800-GRE-CALL, contacting the website http://www.gre.org, or writing to Graduate Record Examinations, P.O. Box 6000, Princeton, NJ 08541-6000.

All international applicants whose first language is not English or who have not received a baccalaureate degree from an institution in which the language of instruction is English must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and submit the results of that test with the application for admission. A TOEFL score of 560 or higher is required for the EPC Program. Information about the TOEFL may be obtained by writing to:

How to Apply

The following materials or actions are required:
(Items 1 and 2 are sent directly to the Graduate School, all others are sent to EPC)

  1. Complete application
  2. Mail the $45 (electronic) fee to the Graduate School. Applications without fees cannot be processed

  3. Statement of your interests (a brief description of your interests in environmental pollution control);

  4. Three letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your academic or professional abilities. These letters are to be addressed to -

  5. Examine the list of affiliated faculty (Appendix B), based on their research interests, as possible faculty advisers. Include three faculty advisers with your statement of interest, or list the faculty on a separate sheet of paper;

  6. Two original undergraduate transcripts;

  7. Application for a U.S Visa (International Students only)

  8. Original copy of GRE scores and TOEFL score (if applicable)

*Formal acceptance or rejection is made through our recommendation to the Graduate School. Once an admission decision is made, we will notify you in writing.*

Additional Information, Please complete the following ADDITIONAL REQUIRED forms

  1. Two official transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended, both undergraduate and graduate

  2. International applicants must submit official or attested university records, with certified translations if the records are not in English.
    Notarized copies are not sufficient.

  3. Standardized test scores as required.

  4. Application for Visa Document (International Students Only)

  5. Three letters of recommendation.

  6. Statement of purpose.
