Because faculty and staff at Penn State Harrisburg have asked for the ability
to schedule meetings and coordinate activities with people at
March 11, 2007 - April 1, 2007
October 28, 2007 - November 4, 2007
Here are the migration instructions:
PLEASE NOTE - During testing, version 10 of the Oracle Calendar client
did not handle the migration correctly.
Version 9.0.4 of the Oracle Calendar had no issues. If you are running version 10, please do the
migration from a computer running version 9.0.4.
1) Export original Oracle Calendar data:
a) Start Oracle Calendar and log into PSH's calendar
server.
b) Accept all new meetings before proceeding, if you have any.
c) Be sure to print out appointments that fall in the date ranges above so that
you have a record of which events' starting times need to be manually adjusted.
d) Designate settings and access rights will need to be recreated on the new
calendar server, so be sure to keep a record of these options also.
e) Click on File, Export Data
f) If it isn't already highlighted, click on vCalendar
file to highlight, and click on Continue.
g) For the date range, select Custom, and then Previous 1 year(s), and to the
next 1 year(s).
h) At the bottom of the dialog box, click Browse to select where to save the
export file, e.g. c:\xyz11.vcs. Remember
where you save the export file.
i) Click OK - If successful a message will pop up
"All Details are Transferred"
j) To avoid scheduling confusion during this migration period you will need to
uncheck the box "Can invite you to Entries." To do this go to Tools,
Access Rights, Scheduling, and uncheck the appropriate box.
k) Click OK and Close Oracle Calendar.
2) Restart Oracle Calendar and fill out the information for the new calendar
server:
a) Click on Other, New
b) Type "PSU Calendar Server" in the Connection Name.
c) Type "cal.psu.edu" in the server name.
d) Click on Lookup, then OK.
e) Click on "PSU Calendar Server", select "Make Default",
and click on OK.
f) Log into the new calendar server using your Penn State Access Account UserID and password.
g) If the "Offline Agenda" message appears, select "Yes",
and click OK or Press Enter.
3) Import original Oracle Calendar data:
a) Click on File, Import Data.
b) Select vCalendar file and Continue.
c) Select "All" for the dates.
d) Browse to find the vCalendar file you saved in
step 1, e.g. c:\xyz11.vcs.
i) Note - On import, you may need to answer
"Yes" repeatedly for duplicate items on same day several times.
e) After the import is completed, use the printouts you created in step 1 to
make any necessary adjustments to starting times.
4) Also, one person in each department needs to recreate the Groups for their
department. The person needs to create
the group so that he/she is the "Owner". Check settings and determine whether or not
emails get sent on add/delete/change of events.
After the migration is finished, your calendar is available in the Oracle
Calendar Client and also on the web at http://www.cal.psu.edu.
