On Saturday, June 7, during the regularly scheduled
maintenance window (5:00-7:00 a.m.), Information Technology Services
(ITS) will migrate all POP and IMAP users of the incoming mail server,
mail.psu.edu, to the new and improved e-mail system. During this time,
mail.psu.edu will not be available for checking or sending e-mail until
after the expected completion time of 7:00 a.m.
It is anticipated that the updated e-mail system will improve the
performance, stability, and reliability of Penn State's e-mail
service via mail.psu.edu. The migration of mail.psu.edu users marks the
first phase in a multi-phase roll-out of the new system. Migration of
POP users of the incoming mail server, email.psu.edu, is scheduled for
Saturday, June 21; an announcement is forthcoming.
It should be noted that an bug has been identified with the "Leave Mail
On Server" option (LMOS) via Macintosh's Mail.app e-mail client. At
this time, users are advised to disable the client's LMOS feature, if
possible, until Apple provides a fix for this bug; a trouble ticket has
been opened with Apple, and an update will be provided once a solution
is available.
Inquiries and requests for assistance should be directed to ITS Help Desk staff at helpdesk@psu.edu . Information about the e-mail
services managed and provisioned by ITS is found in the ITS Knowledge Base at http://kb.its.psu.edu .
