The brand name or company name does not matter, it can be 802.11B or G standard but 802.11A will not work.

The 802.11B and 802.11G standards are fully compatible with one another. The 802.11G card is backwards compatible with the 802.11B access point. Which PennState uses around campus.

802.11G transmits data at 54 megabits per second over a wireless network.

802.11B transmits data at 11 megabits per second over a wireless network.

It is recommended to purchase an 802.11B or 802.11G card for your laptop if you do not already have one or if your laptop was not equipped with a built in wireless card.
