Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology (BSMET)


The Bachelor of Science graduate with a major in Mechanical Engineering Technology is an engineering technologist who has been educated to develop functional and cost-effective mechanical systems from basic engineering fundamentals and practical designs.

The MET program prepares individuals to provide high level technical support to a variety of industrial, commercial, consulting and governmental organizations. Among the responsibilities that may be assigned to MET graduates are the development and evaluation of machines, manufacturing processes and procedures, facilities operation and maintenance, quality control, technical sales, design of mechanical systems for heating and cooling of buildings, energy management, and service in various government agencies.

The strengths of the MET program at Penn State Harrisburg include:

  1. An applied, hands-on program.
  2. Extensive laboratory experience.
  3. Accreditation by the Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
  4. MET graduates who wish to continue their professional development can take the Fundamentals of Engineering exam in Pennsylvania, a prerequisite for taking the the Professional Engineering exam.
