PRACTICE DRILLS OCTOBER 16 AND 17

Swatara Building — 948-6232

The Department of Safety and Police services is staffed with sworn police officers and civilian personnel charged with the responsibility of providing a safe environment to the campus community. The police officers of the department enforce state laws as well as University rules and regulations. The civilian personnel, which includes student employees, handle clerical support and administrative tasks.

Kevin J. Stoehr, Chief of Police, is responsible for the coordination of Penn State Harrisburg's Safety and Police Services. Penn State Harrisburg's Safety and Police Services employs a full-service Police Department staffed with state-certified Police Officers who are on duty 24 hours each day throughout the year. These police officers are responsible for the enforcement of all traffic laws (motor vehicle code), Commonwealth criminal codes, and upholding University policies and regulations.

In addition to patrol and code enforcement duties, our police respond to calls for service and provide training and assistance on crime prevention. Mr. Stoehr is also the campus Safety Officer, responsible for a variety of safety-related issues including monthly building fire drills. Safety and Police Services utilize vehicle, bicycle and foot patrols to insure the safety and well being of all at Penn State Harrisburg.

Students of Penn State Harrisburg are actively involved in the police department and exclusively staff a student patrol which assists police officers in parking enforcement, crime prevention and the campus escort service that is provided to students at no cost.

The Department of Safety and Police Services offers informational courses in bicycle safety, self defense and campus safety awareness programs. In addition, they are actively involved in a SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Chapter, as well as special event security and property engraving. Campus residents having any concerns regarding campus safety and/or security should report their concerns to the Coordinator, Residence Life. If the problem is such that assistance is needed from Police Services, the Coordinator will make contact. Where the problems need immediate attention (assaults, thefts, prowlers, etc.), Police Services should be contacted immediately in order that appropriate action can be initiated. Any follow-up Investigations will be conducted by Police Services.
