The SDCET Program offers various resources that students can utilize in seeking internships and career employment. This web site does not post job opportunities. We encourage students to take advantage of the following resources in their career search.

SDCET Career Fair

Each fall, the SDCET Program hosts its own career fair. Firms participating in the Career Fair inform students about their companies and career opportunities, connect with individual students, and collect resumes from graduating seniors as well as underclassmen. Individual interviews may be conducted on campus the following day or off campus at business locations. The participating companies are primarily located in Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic region, but several of them have national and international offices.

SDCET majors are also invited to participate in both the Civil Engineering and Architectural Engineering Career Fairs at University Park. For more information, click on these links: CE and AE.

Resume Book

The SDCET student club, PSPEC, produces its annual resume book at the beginning of the fall semester. Any SDCET student who is seeking an internship or employment after graduation may submit a resume. The book is mailed to companies attending the SDCET Career Fair, as well as to more than 250 firms. It may also be sent to firms who contact the Program seeking graduates and/or internship candidates. This is an excellent opportunity for students to distribute their resumes to a large audience.

Career Services

Penn State Harrisburg Career Services is a valuable resource for any PSH student who is involved in a job search. The Center provides help in resume writing, cover letter preparation, techniques and mock interviews, contact information for companies, job announcements, and interview facilities. Because it is part of University Career Services, students have access to extensive resources. Job announcements are open to all registered Penn State students, and interviews can be conducted through University technology services from any of the PSU campuses. Career Services is also available to alumni who are seeking career moves.

Job Posting

When the Program receives a job announcement, it is posted on the SDCET bulletin board in the Olmsted Building. Students are encouraged to check the board regularly and, if interested in a posting, secure a copy of the announcement. If the job announcement is received electronically, the Program forwards an email to the SDCET majors.

Networking

Networking opportunities are arranged to benefit our students. For example, the SDCET student club, PSPEC, hosts annual field trips to the Pittsburgh and Baltimore areas. Students meet with company representatives and alumni who are familiar with the Program and can discuss possible employment opportunities. PSPEC members also participate in regional and national conferences. In addition to learning about their future career at these events, students interact with people from across the state or nation. This networking has resulted in job placement in various fields and locations. Finally, the SDCET Advisory Board holds an annual networking event in the spring which is open to SDCET majors. The event provides contact with alumni, company representatives, advisory board members, and friends of the Program. Some companies have sent representatives to this event for the specific purpose of discussing career opportunities with students.

Faculty

The SDCET faculty serve as another excellent resource for students. Their experiences in education and within private industry, along with their connections with professional associations, can assist students with career choices. The faculty can provide valuable insight into their professions and help guide students' decision making regarding internship or job opportunities.
